Letters to The Editor
.
I have read many of the letters to the editor that were forwarded to me during the time I produced photographs for Penthouse Magazine. This was one of the saddest. I didn’t realize until I read the letter the extent to which women would go so far as to have their faces altered because a photographer didn’t like the way they looked. I would never say such a thing to a model or any person for that matter. It is so demeaning and says much about the photographer himself. Who would want to work with him?
Like so many other models that were turned away by insulting them, I contacted Tammy and told her I would be happy to photograph her just the way she was. I found her to be quite beautiful and fit and decided to photograph her at a local gym. It was actually, one of the very first sittings I produced for Penthouse and was amongst the earliest to be published. Bob Guccione loved Tammy’s pictures!

Here is the letter that was mailed to Bob Guccione’s house in New York City on June 2, 1997:
“Dear Dottie,
I spoke to you on the phone a few weeks back about getting a single shoot for Penthouse Magazine. I am in the June issue of Penthouse, in a two girl pictorial. It has been a life long dream of mine to be a “Penthouse Pet”.
Carl Wachter, your “top photographer”, does not like my face. If you could please show these pictures to Mr. Guccione or some of your other photographers, maybe they might consider me. If they don’t like me and I can surgically fix my face, I am more than willing. Please let me know what they think. I thank you very much for how nicely you treated me when we spoke on the phone, and how quickly you sent me my magazines. I hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Tammy Lee Young
P.S. Sorry….I’m not good at writing letters.
