THE NAKED TRUTH
.
I was inspired to embark on creating a personal and intimate, self portrait photo diary upon turning 50. I had no expectation of the outcome, but was very invested in the experience. I figured, if by chance the shoot were to yield any raw and pure expressions of how I was feeling, then it was a success on multiple levels.
By nature I am camera shy, so for me this process meant being vulnerable. Which was the goal. I’m 50 for God’s sake! If not now, then when? This shoot was symbolic for me. I was seeking to free up, loosen up, be naked, be playful, be myself…show a few freckles, etc! The creative surge and desire to celebrate feeling healthy, strong, empowered and sensual at this particular stage of my life superseded any vulnerability issues I was harboring.
The afternoon shoot was peaceful and productive. The natural light was beautiful and generous. I set up my camera and tripod, disrobed, then covered myself with a gentle mist of my favorite Chanel scent. It felt luxurious, and I felt like a beautiful woman, inside and out. Ultimately, the lens revealed, what words could not. The true essence of my “mission” was accomplished.
